Multi-platinum artist OMI delivers the animated music video for positively uplifting end-of-year heater “Rollercoaster”, produced and Directed by Steffen Heil.
Although descriptive of this year, OMI’s take on Rollercoaster is the complete opposite – in the style of a cheery record and is the timely dose of positivity we deserve to end the year on a high. Armed with an infectious beat that intersects where the tropics and dance music meets, in true OMI signature, Rollercoaster is a ‘stuck-in-your-head’ tune about finding your one true love who is so unique that you can’t quite believe it.
Multi-platinum Jamaican artist OMI knows his way around a summer anthem. The Felix Jaehn remix of his timeless smash hit “Cheerleader” was dubbed as “2015’s Song Of Summer” -Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire- and has accumulated over 1 Billion streams on Spotify, and over 1 Billion views on YouTube to date. His new single “Bring My Baby Back” brings that same energy with it’s infectious reggae-pop Island vibes that calls for days spent at the beach,
block parties and backyard BBQ’s. OMI joined Fox5 Good Day NY on Thursday June 4th for a Zoom interview
with anchor Lori Stokes to talk about the new single and life during COVID. He also performed a special a cappella piece of “Cheerleader” while on the broadcast. When asked about the inspiration behind the song, OMI shared, “‘Bring My Baby Back’ was basically just a vibe. While I was in studio in London with Skye Adams and Reggie and Bollie, they said they had this concept that they thought would work well with me, so I said ‘lets do it’! The song is about searching every corner of the Earth for your lost love, but the upbeat production gives it a fun dancefloor vibe.” He adds, “I just love creating great music for my fans, so I hope they feel and enjoy this…
maybe we’ll see some ‘Bring My Baby Back’ dances on Tik Tok!”. Accompanying the single release, OMI also dropped an incredible 2D animated video to further immerse fans into the summer spirit. The vibrant “Bring My Baby Back” visual was produced by GuGu Productions, directed by Luca Comelli e Giulia Mavillonio, and illustrated by Isabella Bersellini, Alice Chen, and Francesco Orsi -Bears. OMI has seen successes many artists only dream of. His hit record “Cheerleader” spent six nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it went 5x Platinum. He’s performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, and America’s Got Talent – and that’s just in the U.S. In the years that have passed since releasing “Cheerleader” and his debut full-length album, Me 4 U, OMI has recharged his body, mind, and soul by spending time with family in Jamaica. He’s also been honing in on his craft -growing as a singer, a songwriter, and a performer. Now, he’s ready to begin his next chapter. “Music is demanding it’s very jealous and if you don’t pay it any mind it will not pay you any mind. When it gets away from you, it’s hard to get it back,” he admits. “I’m in that first stage again, as if I never had a hit record. That’s the hunger, the drive that I have right now in my heart and in my mind.” Though a debut record’s initial success may be intimidating to some, OMI is confident in himself and the people who support him. He’s not fearful of the next step, he’s eager to take it.
